Hello! I’m Lonnie Richardson, the founder of God’s Special Angels Ministries. I’d like a moment of your time to tell you a little about myself.
I grew up on a four hundred acre farm in Kilbourne, Louisiana where we raised cotton, soybeans, milo maize, cattle, horses, hogs, chickens, quail, and a few goats. We raised the row crops and livestock until I was about six years old. After that, we primarily phased out the crops and focused on livestock with our only crop being Coastal Bermuda Grass and Alyssa Bermuda Grass as hay for the livestock. Didn’t know what central air and heat was until I was twelve years old. That’s when Dad built a new house with this beloved amenity.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Political Science. I have an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Art/Interactive Multimedia. I am also a Licensed Practical Nurse. I have been a musician, rancher, ranching consultant, tow boat electrician, and a fork lift operator. I have had a business of importing and raising Betta splendens (Siamese Fighting Fish) from Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.
I grew up in the First Baptist Church in Kilbourne. I then crossed the street and attended the First Methodist Church where I served as the lay pastor for three years. I served in the Baptist Church in Munford, Tennessee as the Developer and Director of a Special Needs Program that was immensely successful. I presently attend a church called The Gathering in Sevierville, Tennessee where I have served in Computer graphics support, video production, and the direction of video support for services. I believe that the Bible is God’s own Word and that it contains nothing but truth.
As a nurse I have worked in Skilled Care Facilities, Cardiac Units, Burn Units, Psychiatric Units, and Behavioral Units. I worked for over three years within a residential setting serving individuals with behavioral disorders and learning disorders. I have worked over five years with individuals with various types of dementias, delusional disorders, and Alzheimer’s. So what do I know about special needs individuals and their families? Plenty. You see, as of this writing, I have a twenty one year old daughter, Megan, who was born with autism. Not only have I worked with the special needs, I come home every day and I live with it. I have, to say the least, had more than ample opportunity to learn about not only autism, but a great host of disorders that affect children, adults, and the elderly.
Presently, I have worked with families in twenty seven states and seven foreign countries to help them provide a better life for their special needs loved ones. As a nurse I know the wisdom of man in regards to the many disorders and syndromes that affect our population. However, as a follower of Christ and as an avid reader of God’s Word, I prefer to put my faith in God’s power and wisdom. The Holy Spirit is upon me with this burden for the special needs individual and their families. I’ve tried to run and hide from it. But the Spirit is there to chastise me. I’ve tried to be distracted from it.But the Holy Spirit is there to reign me back in. So again I confess my sins of disobedience. God has forgiven me and I’ve forgiven myself. Now, just a little bit more about me.
I love to read. I read anything about every thing. I have a dear friend, Dr. Stephen Anderson, who tells me, “Man, you are stuff knowing dude.” I believe in taking learning past the minimum. I love to absorb knowledge. Not that it really does me much good, but I love to learn.
I am forty seven years old as of this writing. I live in Seymour, Tennessee with my lovely wife Cheryl who is the best life partner I could have ever dreamed for. She is certainly more than I deserve. I have two children still living at home. I have three step children who are grown and live too far away for my liking. I have seven grandchildren and the eighth grandchild should arrive June 23 of this year if not before.
I love writing, reading, photography, graphic art design and production, fishing, golf, working in the garden (vegetables and flowers), worshipping and learning God’s Word in and out of church, and teaching others about Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, and God’s Word. There are others aspects and facets about my life that I’d like to share but time and space do not allow for everything. I love life. I love to live life and enjoy life with every fiber of my being. I’ve done many things to experience life and I’ve tasted most all aspects of life to one degree or another. However, the life I now live is a life of servitude and following Christ.
Take care and enjoy God’s peace and joy in your everyday lives. God Bless!
Lonnie Richardson
